We are now 2 weeks into our journey and this year we will ride from Frankfurt to Milan, incorporating a 21 day tour of Switzerland with CTA friends.
We began in Frankfurt, on 12th Aug and rode for 3 days on the Main River towards Wurzberg. Easy riding, a great way to begin. Frankfurt seemed really relaxed, and to describe it as sleepy seems like an oxymoron, but laid back is the best description I can think of.
Below are some photos taken along the way? Between Frankfurt and Wurzberg.
Update 27th August. We have had some seriously tough days recently.
Our last day on the Romantic Road, Sundau, took us into the foothills of the Bavarian Alps. It was a beautiful sunny day and lots of families were out walk the hillsides, a wonderful glimpse for us of a lifestyle we can only imagine.
Since then we had a major adventure riding Fern Pass on of the passes on The Via Claudia Augusta that has a shuttle. Unfortunately we were unaware of this, struggled our way up a rough gravel ascent, pushing most of the final section and then began the descent. We weren't far into the gravel descent when I decided it was too steep to ride so I walk the descent as well. Arrived in the rain to a guest house in Nassereit and was thankful to be there.
The next day was a relatively easy day to Landeck, a strange and unattractive place but as we were in early we had a well earned rest. Today has been another uphill day, heading to Liechtenstein, and I called an end to the day part way up the Arlberg Pass and am happy playing with the blog which I have been unable to post so far.
